I noticed last year when you had pointed out it had been since 2020 since the CTU members had seen audited financials.

This is probably not a great sign.

I'm not sure what the CTU leadership thinks they're doing - perhaps they could "get away with it" during the "Biden leadership", but they had to know that wouldn't last. I mean... wtf.

Don't other people face legal consequences for failing to produce required audits and allowing illegal campaign work?

Thanks for pointing out, repeatedly, that this was done without Martwick ever producing a single analysis from anybody--even someone obviously biased!--to show that the Tier 2 people were on track to eventually get less than Social Security from pension payments, triggering the federal Safe Harbor rule. I think the politicians trust in the idea that most voters don't understand the complicated calculations involved in figuring out pensions, they're afraid to even think about it. Basically it's the financial version of nuclear war.

Also:

1) Who the hell is Martwick to "promise" the Chicago unions anything outside the legislation that got passed, and think that he has some kind of legal authority to make good on that promise?

2) If you get a chance Austin, would love to hear why it was useful enough to consolidate the downstate pensions that we gave those unions this sweetener...and why Chicago police and fire did not find it in their interest to join that consolidation, though they still want the money. I have not seen anybody answer that question. I am too afraid of numbers myself to think about it.

As per Wirepoints, there were fixes other than going WAY over what is required to get to the safe harbor. Others had dealt with this by putting aside a reserve in the event that they needed to top up anybody to meet the requirements.

But, more to the point, Chicago can't even afford to make the contributions to fulfill the Tier 2 requirements NOW.

So.... okay, the promises are boosted. Who is going to pay for them?
